SUMMARY:Opening Lecture: Rodin in the United States—Confronting the Modern
DESCRIPTION:Antoinette Le Normand-Romain, the exhibition curator and former director general of the National Institute of the History of Art in Paris, presents the opening lecture of the exhibition Rodin in the United States: Confronting the Modern. The exhibition and the lecture consider the artist’s legacy in the U.S. from 1893 to the present. This exhibition tells the story of the collectors, art historians, critics, gallerists, and philanthropists—notably, many of whom were women—who endeavored to make Rodin known in the United States. The nearly 1,300 works by Rodin held in American museums and private collections today testifies to their success.\nPresented live in the Clark’s auditorium and broadcast simultaneously on Zoom.
