DESCRIPTION:Hosted by Mark Franklin –\nJoin us for our 4th Calliope Cafe, showcasing local high school students!\nLocal students from classes 2022 to 2027 are invited to perform for their peers on a dedicated soundstage in a café environment provided within the Stationery Factory in Dalton.\nMark Franklin, who retired from teaching at Wahconah in 2014, and who coordinated Wahconah’s Calliope Café events in their cafeteria for many years, has agreed to serve as a kind of curator for its renaissance in the Stationery Factory.\nIf you are a high school student (including incoming ninth graders and the class of 2022) in Berkshire County and would like to participate, or if you are a faculty member who would like to sponsor students to participate in this event, please contact Mark via email at markfrankl@gmail.com. He will provide you with a questionnaire.\nTypically, each student gets about 5-7 minutes on stage. To plan the entertainment, we need to know, in advance, what they want to do, what they need for accompaniment (no Karaoke), etc., and how long they expect to be performing. In addition to music (songs and instrumentals, solo or combo, we welcome prepared readings, short comic, or dramatic pieces, including original standup. There will be a dedicated “house” P.A. system to accommodate “acoustic” acts. Drum sets, large amplifiers, etc. are discouraged. Think “unplugged”.\nOur ultimate goal is to hold one evening per month throughout the year. In the future, depending on how much interest is generated, individual schools might be invited to hold their own Calliope Cafe evening, but to get things started, we’re inviting all area schools to participate.\nThe event is free, donations welcome! Snacks & (non-alcoholic) drinks will be available.\n
