Clawhammer Banjo w/Joe Newberry

This class, geared toward players at the intermediate level, will share techniques and tips that will allow students to apply what they learn to tunes they already have under their belts. Areas of focus will include the fifth string as melody note, playing a tune up the neck, picking out an unfamiliar tune using open strings, closed notes on the second fret and fifth string, and pull offs, hammer-ons, and slides. ‍

Canadian Fiddle Styles w/April Verch

This intermediate level class will provide a brief overview and history of various regional Canadian fiddle styles. Participants will learn to play at least one tune by ear, and apply the bowing patterns and ornamentation techniques that correspond to the regional style of the tune. Feel free to bring a recording device and your questions – we’ll have a good time!
