Black Legacy Project – Album Release Show

The Black Legacy Project is a transformative musical celebration of Black history that fosters racial healing and unity. Born in the summer of 2020 amid the nation’s reckoning with the killings of George Floyd, Ahmaud Arbery, and Breonna Taylor, the Black Legacy Project was created to bridge divides and build understanding through the universal language of music. By curating experiences that bring people of all races together, the project creates space for meaningful dialogue, the sharing of stories, and the reimagining of songs that inspire audiences to step into one another’s shoes.

From 2021 to 2023, the project launched a series of week-long residencies in the Berkshires, Atlanta, Los Angeles, the Mississippi Delta, Denver, the Arkansas Ozarks, and Boise. Each residency united Black and White artists, along with artists of every background, to reinterpret iconic songs tied to the Black American experience and to write original music that speaks to the urgent calls for justice and unity in our time. Community roundtable discussions grounded this creative process, ensuring the music was rooted in lived experience and collective reflection. The result: two powerful albums, Vol. 1 and Vol. 2, featuring 24 songs reimagined, written, and recorded as part of the project.

The Black Legacy Project continues to thrive on stage through a national touring band that delivers powerful, interactive performances. More than concerts, these events are transformational experiences, immersive musical celebrations that spark conversation, cultivate empathy, and create a shared sense of belonging. The touring ensemble features four Berkshire-based musicians, Bree Nicola, Katherine Winston, Bryan House, and Michael Aaron, who bring the vision of the project to life for audiences across the country.
